Fayette County’s Communications Training Officer Kourtney Rose received the Kyle Plush Answer the Call (KPATC) Foundation Challenge Coin, an honor awarded to 911 professionals who show persistence and determination in locating a 911 caller in distress.
On February 11, 2022, Kourtney answered a 911 call from a cellphone. The caller was not able to speak with Kourtney, but using all available resources, including location services from the county’s newest technology, Carbyne, Kourtney was able to determine an incident location and notified police. Upon arrival, officers discovered a domestic situation with a female victim being assaulted and held against her will. Thanks to Kourtney’s attention to detail and following her instincts, the victim was located and received medical treatment and the perpetrator was arrested.
Kourtney has been employed with Fayette County’s 911 since June 2018. She was recently nominated for employee of the year and described as stepping up “well beyond her station” and “great for morale”. She also received a Fayette County 911 Distinction Award for this call.
911 Communications Director Katye Vogt praised the actions of Kourtney. “Kourtney consistently demonstrates her dedication to her peers, the center, and serving the citizens of Fayette County to the best of her ability. She was recently described as a ‘great source of leadership’ in a nomination for employee of the year and I could not agree more. Her thorough actions are examples of our duty to answer the call and ‘to be your best selves each and every day.’”
